Fun with Picnik

I've been having Fun with Picnik

Thanks to Shauna from The Reed Life

I always love looking at the photos on Shauna's blog and wondered what she used to edit them. I suppose I could have asked her, but now I don't have to because someone else did. Who knew? She uses Picnik. I've used it before too, but now, it's opened a whole new editing world for me. It's easy, peasy...just the thing for quick, fun photo editing.

Thanks Shauna!

and a completely random quote to end this post.
A very small degree of hope is sufficient to cause the birth of love.

Happy Fall

or shall I say Autumn. Why is it that this season has two names?

Embracing...

...my kids and my camera.

And, according to Webster....

"em·brace

to take or clasp in the arms; press to the bosom; hug.
to take or receive gladly or eagerly; accept willingly: toembrace an idea."

ACK! What is wrong with this darn font stuff? I've had trouble for months now with the font options and can't seem to get to the bottom of it.
I'm linking up with Emily today for Embrace the Camera.

Today's 9-11

A friend posted this on facebook today: "A Macy's ad in todays New York Times says it all....'hug your children, spend the day with family, think of an old friend, wave to your neighbor, go for a long walk, light a candle, share your thoughts, take a moment for yourself, be there for someone else, watch the sunset, look forward to sunrise'.

I spent the day at the zoo,

taking photos of my kids,
and having a picnic.
On the way to my parents' house for dinner, I traveled over a bridge dedicated to two local victims of the attack.

I thought about what happened 10 years ago and the precious lives that were lost that day...the day that is forever etched in so many minds.
How could anyone ever, ever forget what that day was like?

Today, though, I made happy memories and am even more grateful for the blessings I have been given. Today's 9-11 was a gift!

A New Year

The new school year is here and it makes me so very anxious.
Making cute posters to hang in my classroom does help with the first day jitters though. I created this using Picasa.

Fun Stuff

With digital photography there seems to be an endless amount to learn. I don't think there is ever any hope of catching up and learning all of it, unless it became my full-time job...and I'm not looking to give up being a mom and a wife or changing my career. In the mean-time, I putter here and there and find things that are fun to play around with. I have been reading on other blogs about "actions" that you can use in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I decided to make an attempt at downloading a few and trying them out. After a bit of navigating to find the appropriate resources...I did it...and here are the results.

So fun, and easy to do now that they are installed.

I used the free Action Set from Pioneer Woman. There are great links right on her blog for installing and using the actions.
